In a time when any idiot with a cell phone thinks he or she is a great photographer, the actual art and appreciation of a great, lens-wielding maverick is often forgotten. Until December 12th, however, you can put all this behind you and view the work of one of South Africa’s finest photographers, as David Goldblatt’s latest solo exhibition On The Mines is taking place at The Goodman Gallery. This exhibition comes as a celebration of the release of a new edition of Goldblatt’s 1973 book, On The Mines. In recognition of the book’s release, The Goodman Gallery is presenting a selection of works that appear in the book, in an homage to the towering artistic presence that is David Goldblatt.
