The 25th April marks World Malaria Day and Relate, a Cape-based NGO, is turning the tide on this disease with the sale of the Relate Bracelet. Despite Malaria not being as widespread in South Africa as in other parts of the world, it remains responsible for over half a million deaths annually, mostly pregnant women and children. In sub-Saharan Africa, statistics reveal that one child dies every minute from this disease, despite Malaria being both preventable

On April 10th, Cesar’s Way and All About Cats Magazine present Escape From Planet Earth, screened at Ster Kinekor, Cresta. Hot on the heels of its record sell-out SA Music edition, The Big Issue delivers another cracker magazine, with a heavy focus on the people in South Africa making change on all levels. “During crazy times like these where South Africans seem to be inundated with social, political and economic problems, looking at what people from all walks of life are doing to effect change — big and small — is, for me, a strong elixir against the despair that we could all so easily succumb to,” says Melany Bendix, editor. Jean Craven and Tim Ziehl are not your average swimmers. Like Nemo’s dad, these skilled water-lovers decided to use their aquatic abilities for good and, in 2009, set up a charity called ‘Jean and Tim Swim.’ Little did they know that this simple step (or initial plunge) would become madswimmer.com. This journey took the swimmers across the Straits of Gibraltar and totalled a mammoth 17 km. In 2010 Jean, along with newcomers Evan Feldman and Colin Franks, swam the 12 km’s from Asia to Europe- a route that took them through sections

The morning after the Birthday of South Africa’s most famous living citizen can be a little depressing. Yesterday, we were reminded of the selfless actions of a certain Mr Mandela who, at 94, is still able to fill us with a unique sense of pride and achievement. Today just seems like a Thursday. This said, the legacy of Mandela cannot simply be confined to one day and demands to be recognised, remembered and employed as a model for modern day South Africa. Producer Anant Singh and his company Videovision Entertainment have announced their latest project with regards the commemoration of Madiba: a movie based on his autobiography, Long Walk To Freedom. In the spirit of Mandela Day (July 18), the production team decided to
