The Walkerville Farmer’s Market

When taking the M2 highway out of Joburg, it always feels a bit like you are participating in the poignant part of an expensive movie. With the massive buildings of the city to one side and the expanse of the Oriental Plaza on the other, you believe you could drive on forever.

If you do continue driving south out of the city, taking the road beyond Soweto and towards Vereeniging, there is a surprise in store. In such close proximity to the bustling city centre are the lush farmlands of the region around Walkerville. It is in this setting that The Walkerville Farmer’s Market takes place.

The market includes only the best organic and fresh produce, from vegetables, fruit, nuts, herbs, chickens, eggs and honey, to home-crafted antiques, leatherwork, jewellery and glassware. With 60 stalls, live entertainment and fantastic goods for sale, the market caters for the whole family.

The Walkerville Farmer’s Market takes place each and every Saturday, from 9am to 3pm, giving you the chance of a little Jozi road trip from the skyscrapers of the city to the ducks, geese, farm animals and rolling hills of Walkerville.
