The Jozi Food Market

The best artisan fresh food market in town

‘Food glorious food’ is the opening song from the musical Oliver! Unlike the central, gruel-eating, Dickensian character in that particular story, you do not have to fantasise about amazing food, nor do you have to sing about it.  You can simply go The Jozi Food Market each Saturday and eat it.

The Jozi Food Market is an outdoor artisans’ market in the heart of the northern suburbs.  It takes place at Pirates Sports Club and is open to the public from 08:30 to 13:30 each and every Saturday.  The aim of the market is to get people out of stuffy shopping malls in the city and give them a space to do their shopping outside in the sunshine.  All the items on sale are presented by small, local businesses, which offer their fresh, delicious goods as an alternative to the preservative-laced items on the shelves of grocery stores.

The outdoor setup is ideal for families as, in addition to the food stalls, there are play areas for children, spots where adults can sip tea, coffee or a cold beer and even a pub, complete with live televised sport, for those who need their weekend sports fix.

After a busy week, The Jozi Food Market presents a way in which a Saturday should be spent.  Sitting outside and sharing the blue sky with delicious food and drink-…now that’s something Oliver Twist should sing about.
