Air dancing in the wintry skies
Rand Airport is an aviation hub that is tucked in between a highway, a golf course, a lake and a massive international airport. During the week it buzzes- quite literally- with the efforts of student pilots, charter planes, helicopters and cargo carriers. This Sunday, May 20th, things will be a little different, as some of the most spectacular aerial display teams in the country will be taking to the Germiston skies at the Rand Airshow 2012.
This year’s programme includes a mass radial-engine fly by, the EQSTRA Flying Lions, Slick 360 aerobatics. The L39 Albatross formation team, the Gabriel Pitts Special aerobatic team, the Douglas DC-3 Dakota, the Mazda aerobatic team and ribbon cut, a master power helicopter display, the Gabriel truck top landing display, the De Havilland Vampire, the P51 Mustang, and a De Havilland Chipmunk formation- and those are just the entries that we could fit into this article!
The gates open at 07h00, with the main event starting at 10h00 and concluding at 15h00. Tickets will cost R60 for adults, R30 for kids and admission is free for children younger than 6 years old.
With such variety on show and good weather on the cards, The Rand Airshow is the ideal place to be on Sunday, whether you are an aviation enthusiast or just somewhere who like looking up and going ‘whoohoo!’
